Reflection

The creation of Year 2 Year Portfolios grew out of my own experience in the MET program.  I was introduced to Helen Barrett in ETEC 590 and used her research around portfolio assessment in the creation of my own portfolio.  I found the process of creating a learning portfolio a valuable and rewarding experience and I think my passion for this process is clear in my presentation.

I have used portfolio assessment in the classroom but have never found a program, website or software that is exactly what I wanted or needed.  I know districts that use Google Classroom also use Google Apps to create Portfolios, which is a free service.  My concern is the security of the students' information and the fact that the portfolios require several different apps to create a portfolio, younger students find this difficult.

My research and Portfolio development is thorough and based on solid theoretical foundations. I walk the potential investor through the pain point, solution, differentiation and competition providing a sound rationale for Y2Y Portfolios then lead them to the ask and introduce those behind the idea. (D. Sullivan is someone I would hire immediately if this idea were to come to fruition.)

I do think my marketing plan is lacking.  I found the marketing and numbers to be difficult to imagine.  I would hire someone to do this part for me.  I think my ask is realistic to get a project such as Y2Y Portfolios to the provincial level. I do believe that every student across the country should be creating a portfolio that represents their learning journey.  I know many districts are financially strained and that is why I would like to see a project such as this directed towards the province rather than at districts.

I purposefully chose this website format as it emulates an ePortfolio.  My logo represents a traditional folder-type portfolio but turned up-side down it also looks like a computer monitor. I put a great deal of thought into the Y2Y student example and the branding of Year 2 Year.

I struggled with the Elevator pitch, getting my message across in one minute while trying to portray excitement and professionalism for the product. I attempted a balance of the purpose, qualities and my personality to be portrayed.  I am not sure how many times I created and re-created that one minute video!  I give marketing professionals credit for the work they do!

Overall my passion and absolute belief in the need for this project would drive my entrepreneurship, I would ensure I had a sound marketing team to assist with the numbers and the presentation of my product.
