The competition for Y2Y Portfolios is predominantly non-designated ePortfolio websites that are either website builders, blog sites or presentation tools and though these can work well for creating ePortfolios, they may require private emails for each student, need to be created by the teacher for each student and are stored on the internet.

They are not standardized by the districts and accessible through a district server, behind their security firewall.

The designated ePortfolio creation sites may require a membership for each student and are not private and secure sites, most require a montly fee per/person.
