Year 2 Year and Y2Y Portfolios grew out of my experiences as a parent, teacher and student. The need to know what my children were learning, the need to share what my students were doing and even my own needs as a graduate student to showcase my work led me to create Year 2 Year Portfolios. My background as a librarian, curator, ed-tech teacher, Inquiry and Innovation lead and classroom teacher provide me with the background knowledge of what schools and teachers need. Any education based product needs to be easy to use and access, not making more work for a teacher’s busy schedule. Students need to be able to assist in the choosing and curation of their work and parents need to be able to access their student’s Y2Y e-Portfolio while keeping all other e-portfolios secure and safe.
When Catherine approached me about this idea I was immediately excited about the possibilities. With a background in both business and education I could see the opportunities to create both a valuable product for the K-12 educational market and a much needed product for teahcers and students. As a classroom teacher, librarian and technology-lead I brought my own expertise and perspective to the project. We have created a product that meets the demands of classroom teachers, students and districts. Y2Y Portfolios are safe and secure and represent the learning of the whole student.
